This disease is associated with chronic liver disease that can lead to such conditions as cirrhosis of the liver and liver cancer. HBV is a serious blood-borne pathogen and is highly transmissible in blood and other body fluids through unprotected sex, maternal transmission, injection drug use and receipt of infected blood and blood products.
