 AT First Diagnostic recently developed a new patent pending, micro flow-through system used in the ATFirst, inSTIcheck & FirstVue brand lines. Immunochromatographic assays or single-use screening tests for the rapid, visual detection of antigens & antibodies provide a test that is simple, fast, safe, and shelf stable (18 month shelf life) and it’s highly reproducible.
These types of Immunochromatographic assays for easy finger stick whole blood use have been approved by the FDA for years. The company is now working on extending the intended use of these whole blood devices for the presence of various antigens & antibodies. By placing multiple lines of captured antibodies on the membrane, each for a different analyte, one can develop a single test for more than one analyte.
Immunochromatographic assays, also called lateral flow tests provide: 1. User-friendly format. 2. Very short time to get test result. 3. Long-term stability over a wide range of climates. 4. Relatively inexpensive to make. These features are ideal for applications such as home testing, rapid point of care testing, and testing in the field for various environmental and agricultural analytes.
